Associate Validation Engineer

Prove that our solvers are right. You will build and run the verification and validation framework that tests consequence models against experiment, analytical solutions and published benchmarks.

You will join our Software Development Centre in Pune, working on the verification and validation of the mathematical solvers behind our consequence modelling. The role sits where CFD, computational physics, software testing, data analysis and automation meet.

A validation engineer here is not a tester at the end of a queue. You decide what evidence a claim needs, you build the case that produces it, and you are the person who says whether a solver is fit to be relied on.

Python is not optional for this position. It carries the validation automation, the engineering data analysis, the test orchestration and the reporting. Candidates without strong practical scientific Python experience should not apply.

What you will do

  • Develop, maintain and improve the validation framework for our CFD and consequence modelling solvers.
  • Plan and execute verification and validation studies against experimental datasets, wind-tunnel data, published benchmarks and historical accident cases.
  • Lead the development of new validation cases, test scenarios and V&V strategy as solver capability grows.
  • Handle validation data, migrate existing cases and keep the framework maintained.
  • Design test cases that measure simulation accuracy, robustness and computational performance.
  • Translate physics and software requirements into test scenarios, acceptance criteria and validation procedures.
  • Perform unit testing, regression testing, code review and performance benchmarking for scientific software.
  • Write and maintain Python for test execution, data processing, result comparison, reporting and CI workflows.
  • Investigate simulation anomalies, find the root cause, and support debugging of solver behaviour.
  • Prepare validation documentation and reports that stand up to regulatory and audit scrutiny.
  • Work with developers, AI engineers and process safety teams in a fast-moving R&D environment.

What you will work on

  • CFD and consequence modelling for process safety: gas dispersion, fire, explosion and toxic release.
  • Both modelling architectures — fast integral models and full CFD — and the question of when each is defensible.
  • A cloud-first simulation platform with browser access, a REST API and a Python SDK for automated QRA workflows.
  • Validation against open experimental datasets, and preparation for third-party review.
  • Python-based validation, automation, data processing and engineering analysis, every day.

What we need

  • B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or a related technical field.
  • 3–5 years hands-on in CFD, thermodynamics, heat transfer, numerical simulation, software validation or an adjacent area.
  • Very strong scientific Python: fundamentals, scripting, automation, data handling and engineering analysis. This one is mandatory.
  • Demonstrable experience writing and maintaining Python for test automation, data processing and validation workflows.
  • A solid grounding in fluid mechanics, thermal physics, heat transfer and combustion.
  • Software development practice — Git, version control, and a testing framework you have actually used.
  • Analytical strength and attention to detail. Most validation findings are small before they are large.
  • Clear communication, and the ability to work with people across a fast-moving R&D team.

What helps

  • C++.
  • Consequence modelling or process safety in oil and gas, chemicals, LNG or a related industry.
  • CFD tools such as ANSYS Fluent, STAR-CCM+, OpenFOAM, FLACS, KFX or PHAST.
  • Process safety regulation and standards — PNGRB, PESO, OISD, COMAH or SEVESO.
  • Hydrogen safety, cryogenic release modelling or BESS thermal runaway analysis.
  • HPC, parallel computing or GPU-accelerated simulation.
  • CI/CD — Jenkins, GitLab CI — and automated testing of scientific software.
  • Project work or publications in CFD validation, fire and explosion modelling, or industrial safety.
  • QRA workflows, risk metrics and regulatory reporting.

Compensation and benefits

  • Competitive compensation, set against experience and what the role carries.
  • Performance-linked incentive, on individual and company milestones.
  • Statutory benefits including Provident Fund and Gratuity.
  • Medical insurance cover.
  • Travel allowance for approved office travel and client site visits.
  • Structured training and professional development support.
  • Work alongside academic, technology and process-safety partners in India and abroad.
